Kitchen Furniture
Kitchens and Kitchen Furniture make a house a home, they tell stories, and so do the treasures within them. Childrens drawings, postcards from friends, grandma's china and your favourite recipes, these are the things that make kitchens special. Carter & Rose think our Honfleur Dresser is both useful and beautiful, somewhere to put all those treasured recipe books and china plates, and our Campden Dresser can display your treasures and shut away the merely useful. The Carter and Rose Henri Rocking Chair is somewhere to sit and think while supper is cooking, and our Camargue Table and Chairs is perfect for chatting, eating and enjoying the moment.
Kitchens, during the 17th 18th and 19th centuries, were where the cook, housekeeper and servants worked, seldom did the owners of the house venture down to the kitchen. During this time, kitchens were furnished with cupboards, table and chairs. There was a scullery for washing up and a larder for keeping the food cool. During the 20th century and particularly after the wars, maids and cooks were less common and families organised their own cooking, kitchens became communal areas. French farmhouse kitchens became popular, with dressers, scrubbed wooden tables and painted furniture becoming more frequent. Kitchens are now the heart of many homes and the furniture within them reflects this.
