The use of patten books by furniture makers was well established by the 18th century, when Thomas Sheraton published The Cabinet Maker's Drawing book. This book helped to spread the Neoclassical Regency style through Europe and America, it included many designs for occasional tables, beside tables and cabinets. Later in the century bedside cabinets or commodes were influenced by French style and were lighter and more delicate pieces, many were made from exotic woods and included marquetry or painted detail.
